Meschers sur Gironde
Here are the five southernmost beaches of the Côte de Beauté. It is no more the Gironde, but not really the ocean neither. The waves are gentle and perfect for bathing. Surrounded by white cliffs pierced by troglodyte houses, the beaches offer postcard scenery. Meschers is the place for connoisseurs for whom viewing pleasure is as important as the soft sand and the sea.
Saint Georges de Didonne
The longest beach on the Côte de Beauté: Four miles of sand and waves at height of children... What more to say? Saint George is the perfect place to enjoy the sea with all the family. The entire village is at the service of tourists that are sure to find here everything they would expect from a seaside resort.
Royan
Famous throughout Europe for its great beaches and conches (bands of sand surrounded by rocks that protect them from wind), Royan has always been the resort of choice. Although located after the mouth of the estuary of the Gironde, Royan and its neighbor Saint-Palais-sur-Mer are still protected from the tumultuous waves of the ocean. Record holder of sunshine on the Atlantic coast, Royan offers beautiful beaches with very fine and soft sand. Ninety thousand visitors a year make no mistake, Royan is a paradise for lovers of the sea.
Les Mathes (La Palmyre)
Famous for its zoo, La Palmyre is also the Côte Sauvage: 30 km of beaches, a huge natural bay, Club Med, a nudist beach, surf spots and all kind of water sports... There is something for everyone!
La Tremblade (Ronce les Bains)
Facing the island of Oléron, the 25 km of beaches of La Tremblade are very popular amongst lovers of sunbathing and sea, but even more amongst surf, sailing and other water sports enthusiasts.
And Farther?
There are many other beautiful beaches when going up the coast: Fouras, Châtellaillon, La Rochelle ... Nobody should spend his holidays in Charente Maritime without visiting La Rochelle! During this trip, you can take a moment to enjoy and stroll on the beach of the Minims. On the occasion of an excursion on the island of Ré or Oléron Island, feel free to tour the beaches of these islands, they are more than worth a look. Even the little island of Aix, famous for the Fort Boyard has its sandy beach.
